A Season of Clear Shining
They're gone now - my darling sister and her husband - back over the Atlantic to their life in NYC. And with them went the sunshine...literally! When they were here the temperatures were high and the sun shone all day. Not a drop of rain. But since they've gone it's been cloudy and rainy. I don't mind - it seems appropriate.
What a time we had! Yummy dinners around the table; cooking together; shopping together; singing together; getting to say all the little things that come to mind but usually get forgotten. We hiked the coastal path from Kingsbarns to Crail, toured Stirling Castle and worshipped at the Easter sunrise service in the ruins of St Andrews' old cathedral.
But the best of the best was our trip to Skye. We returned to our favourite B&B close to Dunvegan where we had stayed with my folks last July. Comfy, overstuffed chairs, sheepskin rugs on the floor, huge picture windows overlooking the landscape of the island. I read Lymond with a glass of wine to hand and one of the best views of my life in front of me. Vange read Mrs. Gaskell's North and South, which we're all caught up in these days. The boys were happy with their pipes.
It was hard to leave that place. Hard to leave the perfect silence of Skye and be surrounded by the city busyness of Glasgow.
But life continues on and goodbyes had to be said. My thoughts, so long spent in anticipation, change now to remembering. That's okay - the memories are sweet.
